A rare and deeply personal Catholic devotional relic associated with Saint Francis de Sales (1567–1622).

This small original relic packet contains a textile fragment identified by the accompanying handwritten French inscription:

“Doublure de la chasuble de St François de Sales”
“Lining of the chasuble of Saint Francis de Sales.”

The relic is preserved within an old folded paper wrapper, with a surviving trace of an original seal. The handwritten identification gives this tiny object a particularly intimate character, connecting the fragment to the vestment traditionally associated with the celebrated Bishop of Geneva and founder of the Order of the Visitation.

Historical documentation of the Roman church of Trinità dei Monti records among the devotional objects associated with Saint Francis de Sales an aube, bourse de calice, partie d’une nappe d’autel, doublure de chasuble, cordon et mitre — including the lining of his chasuble.

This is a fascinating piece for a collector of Catholic relics, ecclesiastical history and early devotional objects.
