Rare 1954 Saint Pius X Devotional Card | Pre-Canonization Catholic Prayer Card | Original Ecclesiastical Seal

A beautiful and historically significant 1954 Catholic devotional card depicting Saint Pius X, issued only weeks before his canonization.

The front features a finely printed color portrait of Pope Pius X (1835–1914) in his papal vestments, accompanied by his famous motto:

“Instaurare omnia in Christo”
“To restore all things in Christ.”

The image is attributed to Fausto Conti, with printing by L. Salomone, Rome, as indicated beneath the portrait.

The lower portion bears a period printed reproduction of the Pope's handwritten motto and signature, together with a small ecclesiastical devotional seal.

The reverse contains a French prayer addressed to Saint Pius X, asking for his intercession for humility, faith, peace and protection.

Of particular historical interest is the date printed at the bottom:

23 April 1954

with the ecclesiastical notation “Nihil obstat” and the name of Silvius Romani.

This date places the card just weeks before the canonization of Pius X on 29 May 1954. Contemporary records document numerous devotional and commemorative objects produced around the canonization of Pius X in 1954.

Pius X served as Pope from 1903 until his death in 1914. He was beatified in 1951 and canonized by Pope Pius XII on 29 May 1954.

A wonderful piece of mid-century Catholic history, particularly appealing to collectors of papal memorabilia, Catholic holy cards and devotional ephemera.
