Antique Relic Card – Saint Madeleine Sophie Barat – Textile Relic & Prayer Booklet

A beautiful and highly unusual antique Catholic devotional relic card dedicated to Saint Madeleine Sophie Barat (1779–1865), founder of the Society of the Sacred Heart of Jesus.

This original devotional piece contains a small textile relic identified on the printed insert as having touched the body of Saint Madeleine Sophie Barat:

“Parcelle d’étoffe qui a touché au corps de Sainte Madeleine-Sophie.”

The card also contains a traditional French prayer for the healing of the sick, invoking the intercession of Saint Madeleine Sophie.

The front features a period devotional portrait of the saint, while the interior preserves the original printed prayer and relic presentation. The reverse and printed material show the character of an old devotional object, with signs of age consistent with its history.

Saint Madeleine Sophie Barat was born in France in 1779 and founded the Society of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, dedicating her life to religious education and the spiritual formation of young women. She died in Paris in 1865 and was canonized by Pope Pius XI in 1925.

This is a particularly charming piece for a collector of Catholic relics, antique devotional objects, religious ephemera and historical prayer cards.
