Antique 1939 Catholic Holy Card | Blessed Maria Domenica Mazzarello | Original Devotional Prayer Card
A beautiful original 1939 Catholic devotional card dedicated to Blessed Maria Domenica Mazzarello, co-foundress of the Institute of the Daughters of Mary Help of Christians (Salesian Sisters).
The front features a devotional portrait of Blessed Maria Domenica Mazzarello, shown in religious habit with a radiant halo, accompanied by a sacred image of the Virgin Mary and Child.
The reverse contains a complete Triduum prayer dedicated to Maria Mazzarello, asking for her intercession and for the grace to live a life of faith, devotion and holiness.
Particularly interesting is the original ecclesiastical printing authorization:
“Imprimatur: Mechliniae, die 21 Februarii 1939”
followed by the name of Jos. Carton de Wiart, Vicar General.
Maria Domenica Mazzarello had been beatified only a few months earlier, in November 1938, making this an especially interesting piece from the early period of her public veneration. She was later canonized in 1951.
This is a lovely piece of early 20th-century Catholic devotional history, particularly suited to collectors of Salesian memorabilia, Marian and Catholic holy cards, or material relating to the early cult of Saint Maria Domenica Mazzarello.
